While I find myself disgusted by the antics of the Republican Party, I am equally disgusted by the passivity exhibited by the Democratic Party. They have found themselves finally, in a position of power and instead of using that power to make changes that we the American people were promised, they have chosen to take the high road in their reach for bipartisanship. It is indeed a sad state of affairs. The Democrats have extended the olive branch in a show of good faith only to be spat upon by the Republicans who have shown them nothing but contempt. The road to Hell is paved with good intentions and that is exactly the direction the Democrats are headed.
The infighting among Democrats particularly "Blue Dogs" serves as nothing more than a detraction from the matters at hand as well as comic relief for the Republicans. The Democrats in an earnest effort to make changes that would prove beneficial to many in our country, are floundering in a sea of inconsistencies and contradictions. The Democrat's lack of clarity in their intent has opened the door allowing the Republicans to walk through trashing their proposals and everything they stand for. The Republicans fight dirty and the Democrats refusal to step it up has not served them well. Their apparent belief that given enough rope the Republicans will hang themselves is nothing short of naïve.
The Democrats belief that the American people are smart enough to see through the Republicans true agenda is also naïve. We the public have watched day after day as the President of the United States is maligned by racist pundits and have heard little public outcry in response to these attacks. The passivity of the Democrats has been passed onto the public and the weakness shown by the Democrats has resulted in a loss of confidence by the American people as well as a feeling of ambivalence. The Democrats are much like the new kid in school, they want to be liked and in their desperation to achieve this they have lost themselves and perhaps some of their proposals as well. The Democrats have always portrayed themselves as the good guys, looking out for the middle class, and those in need. Maybe someone needs to remind them that more often than not in the cutthroat world of politics, nice guys finish last.
